WE WELCOME A NEW VOLUNTEER

Sa’eed Matola, age 23, was born in Luanshya on the Copper belt province of Zambia. He did his senior levels at St. Raphael’s secondary school in Livingstone, Southern province, is a trained social worker and received computer training. He is currently unemployed.

“My passion is social work. I have been involved in projects such as “Beat the Drum” by “Heart for Africa NGO”, a program on HIV/AIDS Abstinence; the “Anti-Voters Apathy Project” as a monitor during government elections and “World Hope International – Zambia”.

Beginning of 2010 I discovered a new horizon to my future when a good friend of mine introduced me to the “Mmabana Community Outreach Project Choma – Zambia”. I couldn’t remain inactive infront of this opportunity of taking part in transforming my community and Zambian society.

As a volunteer participating in several activities of the project, I am thrilled by the concept that the MCOP offers. I enjoy interacting with the officers of the Mmabana and my fellow volunteers, as well as with the beneficiaries in the communities. At the MCOP there are no barriers between the management committee and the grassroots unlike in traditionalist organisations I have come across so far. These organisations are driven by a protocol of hierarchy where a handful of technocrats decide on behalf of the community below them without consulting the community in question.

The MCOP strives for social justice through a collective approach by consulting all affected members of the community. As a young social worker, I share this vision, which is why I plan to stay with the MCOP and work with it for the good of our Zambian communities.”
